The Electric Company

The Electric Company

Hey you guuuyyysss! Many parents will remember that beloved catchphrase from the original, THE ELECTRIC COMPANY. Over 30 years later, the show has been re-energized to relate to today's kids with a hip, young cast and a dose of pop culture. It strives to power up children's fundamental reading skills with music, humor, technology and celebrities.

THE ELECTRIC COMPANY itself is a group of friends who share a love of language and are sworn to do the right thing. They solve problems and prevail against their neighborhood's pranksters by using their literacy superpowers.

In addition to the television program, THE ELECTRIC COMPANY offers a comprehensive on- and offline component, reaching kids via online games, after-school programs, community activities and other mediums.

THE ELECTRIC COMPANY is produced by Sesame Workshop, the force behind the iconic children's program, Sesame Street.

For children 6 to 9 years old.

Series Goals

  • Decoding: Children will increase their ability to manipulate sounds in spoken words and map those words to print.
  • Vocabulary: Children will expand the amount of words (vocabulary) that they use and understand
  • Comprehension of Connected Text: Children will learn strategies that good readers use to understand connected text (phrases and sentences).
  • Motivation: Children will be motivated to read connected text and express themselves using text.

Helping Kids Prepare for School

The ability to read proficiently is critical to success in school — and in life. THE ELECTRIC COMPANY reaches out to children, primarily second-graders, by exploring the literacy and language skills needed to become solid readers. Additionally, the program serves to motivate children to want to read; a critical factor in determining their success.
